A Beginner’s Guide To Purchasing A Portable Shelter

Shelter is one of the basic necessities of life and essential to preserving your property. However, with multiple options out there and not all portable shelter systems are built the same, it is crucial to be aware of what to look for and safeguard yourself, your equipment, and vehicles. Shelter solutions are even more critical come winter and harsh weather as this can lead to the damage of expensive stored items.  To ensure your equipment and vehicles are always protected against the elements, you must use shelters to their full potential. To take you through this step by step and show you how to choose the suitable shelter for your operation Pacific Rim Shelters, has put together a guide to train end-users on how to choose and avail of the best quality portable shelters. By following this guide, you will learn how to protect your valuable equipment and property and get the most out of working with us. Getting Started Determine the area or space you have available to install the shelterTo figure out how big your shelter needs to be, you must measure the length and width of the space. Remember, you will need the surface to be larger than the shelter itself. Usually, 6”-12” will be sufficient.  Decide on flooring, roofing, and color optionsWhen it comes to flooring options, you can choose from packed soil, gravel, concrete, or asphalt. Similarly, roof types should be considered. Vertical is best for areas where snow needs to slide off naturally. You also get to choose from ten metal colors. Your roof, walls, and trim can be mixed colors to suit your needs and taste. Next Steps Decide whether you will DIY install or have your shelter professionally installedThis decision has much significance. You could attempt DIY shelter installation as a DIY install manual is provided for each kit, and additional assistance is provided by phone or site visit if necessary. However, while taking on the task yourself will undoubtedly save you money, the benefits of professional service are that they are quick and competent at installs. Also, they can adjust the build if fences or other obstacles are close by. These are advantages that should not be overlooked. Order the correct size of shelterThis is determined by measuring the height, length, and width of the items you are storing. Don’t forget to measure the highest object such as vents, satellite receivers, and air conditioners. For freedom of movement and protection from the elements, an extra 2 feet on both sides and length are recommended, and at least one-foot height clearance is always a good idea. Know your area’s bylaws concerning portable sheltersFinally, one last piece of advice. It is wise to know your area’s bylaws concerning portable shelters so that you stay compliant. Building bylaws are a set of rules under which the construction of a building needs to take place. The laws regulate coverage, height, architectural design, and safety measures to protect buildings against natural disasters such as earthquakes and hazards such as fire and structural failures. Understanding that ‘portable’, often means with many municipalities, that the unit can be taken down and removed within 24 hours. This is an important point to remember. Advice From UsBe certain of the shelter size and specifications you plan on ordering. Additionally, it would help if you also considered what it will take to make the surface area relatively level. Remember that storms rarely come straight down, so consider side panels or full walls to protect your stored items. All in all, you should consider whether your portable shelter can withstand the weather in your area. For this, you need to take into account wind velocity and the amount of snowfall you receive in your area. At Pacific Rim Shelters, our goal is to exceed your expectations. Common Mistakes Made When Buying A Portable Shelter

When it comes to protecting your valuable possessions from the elements, buying a shelter can be a great solution. However, there are several mistakes that people make when purchasing a portable shelter. At Pacific Rim Shelters, we understand the importance of protecting your investment, and we offer custom-designed, portable, all-metal structures that are built to last. In this blog, we will discuss some of the most common mistakes people make when buying a shelter and how to avoid them. Buying the least expensive shelter While a lower price may seem attractive, it can also mean that the shelter is not made of quality materials and/or is missing important structural parts. At Pacific Rim Shelters, we use only high-quality, North American steel in our all-metal structures, ensuring that your investment is protected for years to come. Buying a shelter without considering the weather in your area It’s important to consider the weather in your area when choosing a shelter. Tarped units with a light framework are not suitable for areas with occasional high winds and/or major snowfall. Our shelters are designed by a structural engineer and are built to withstand the heavy wet snowfalls and high winds that are known to the west coast of British Columbia. Buying a shelter with cover material that deteriorates with UV rays Lightweight shelters with canvas or plastic roofing material are at risk of having their fibers broken down by UV rays, weakening their ability to withstand wind, snow, and hail storms. Our all-metal structures are designed to withstand all weather conditions, including UV rays. Buying a unit that is too small Purchasing the correct size is crucial for the proper protection of expensive stored items. A shelter that is too short or too narrow can allow debris and rain to blow into the shelter, potentially damaging the stored items. Through our numerous questions, we will help to determine the correct size of the shelter that will successfully protect your investment from the ever changing elements. Misjudging the height and width required Measuring your unit’s highest point and giving yourself an extra foot of height is important. Our team at Pacific Rim Shelters will do the calculations for you to ensure you have the correct fit. We consider the measurements of your stored unit, the potential use of the shelter, and the pitch of the shelter’s roof. Not preparing the site or installing the shelter properly A shelter is only as good as its base. At Pacific Rim Shelters, we ensure that the base is at least 6” wider than the bottom rails to prevent washing away and undermining the base rails. A blue chip/gravel base is a great cover to keep your unit clean from the soil base. The shelters come as a DIY kit. It is very important to follow the instruction manual along with the ‘easy install tip sheet.’ When in doubt, call us; we are here to help. We also offer custom installation by our competent installation crew. If you are looking for custom-designed, portable, all-metal structures on Vancouver Island, reach out to us at Pacific Rim Shelters. How To Buy A Shelter On A Budget

While every shelter project is different, each of the shelter/pavilion clients can expect certain costs while planning for their new shaded gathering space. Whether building for a park, school, or community center, having detailed financial resources to help you get started will be a great benefit. As experts in the field, we at Pacific Rim Shelters want to help you buy a shelter within your budget. 1. Buy what you need now When on a budget, remember to buy what you need at the time. Consider starting off by buying the basic shelter package, the roof, and the framework. Buy upgrades later, like side panels, walls, an extension, or a Lean-To. 2. Buy the correct size Buying the correct size of shelter will save you money. It is easy to get caught up with the ‘possible future needs’ but know that you can add on to the shelter later. Measure your items to be stored carefully. Measure the height, width, and length of the item(s) you want to store. You will know then what size of the shelter you will need. Make sure the shelter is large enough to house your items. Weather rarely comes straight down. If you can, allow a foot or two of extra space on the widths and lengths to provide more protection. Also, measure the area where you want to build it. Make sure that the base area is 6-12 wider and longer than the shelter. Remember, that the width is measured from the outside of the bottom frame rails, not from the inside. 3. Request a quote Request a quote for a shelter that will comfortably house your item(s). Request full or part walls, gable ends, and Condensation Control as options. This will allow you to see what you can afford. Remember, keep it simple at this point. 4. Decide on the payment method Once you decide on what you want, decide whether you want to pay cash, credit card, or finance it. A 50% deposit is required unless you are financing. The remaining 50% will be due when your order arrives. 5. Ask about financing options Financing allows you to choose what you pay per month based on how many months the loan/lease is for. The more months, the less the amount per month. Choose whichever way makes you comfortable for a monthly payment. We offer financing on the ‘installation’ as well as with the shelter. 6. Lead Time Plan. Allow enough time to have the shelter produced and installed before the bad weather hits. Give yourself three months to have it in place before you need it. Our average delivery time is 6-7 weeks. FINAL NOTE If you are looking for an all metal portable shelter that can withstand high winds and heavy snow loads, reach out to us at Pacific Rim Shelters. We offer an affordable, practical solution that will protect your investment against the sun, wind, rain, and snow. Our reputation for knowledge, quality, and customer service is what sets us apart. Our goal is to ensure that every customer is happy with their all-metal structure, which has been designed for their location, personal needs, and budget. We offer our products and services to people across Courtenay, Comox, Campbell River, Nanaimo, Victoria, Langford, Tofino, Port Alberni, Port Hardy, Port McNeill, and other areas. If you are on the mainland or interior BC, we can have your shelter designed for the snow fall in your area.   Contact us today! To learn more about the services we offer, please click here. Extreme Weather Protection with Metal RV Covers

In the world of recreational vehicles, unpredictable weather conditions can pose a significant threat to your valuable investment. As an avid RV enthusiast, I understand the importance of safeguarding your home on wheels against extreme weather. In this blog, we’ll delve into the realm of extreme weather protection with metal RV covers – a reliable solution to shield your RV from the harshest elements. Durable Materials for Unmatched Strength: Pacific Rim Metal Metal RV covers are crafted from high-quality 26ga steel sheeting and 14ga galvanized metal, known for their exceptional strength and durability. These robust materials form the foundation of the cover, ensuring it can withstand the harshest elements that extreme weather conditions might throw at it. Corrosion Resistance for Long-Term Reliability: The metals employed in the construction of RV covers often undergo treatments like galvanization or receive specialized corrosion-resistant coatings. This extra layer of protection shields the metal from rust and corrosion, crucial factors in regions characterized by high humidity, salt exposure, or frequent rainfall. By effectively preventing corrosion, these metal covers maintain their resilience over time, further enhancing their ability to endure extreme weather conditions without compromising their protective capabilities. UV Protection for Exterior Preservation: Metal RV covers are designed to shield against physical elements and combat the damaging effects of prolonged exposure to sunlight. Incorporating UV-resistant finishes or coatings is a powerful barrier against ultraviolet rays. This feature prevents the deterioration, fading, and cracking of the RV’s roof and exterior surfaces, ensuring that the vehicle retains its aesthetic appeal and structural integrity over the long term. Snow Shedding Design for Winter Resilience: Recognizing the challenges posed by heavy snowfall, Pacific Rim metal RV covers are strategically designed with a 4:12 pitched roof to facilitate efficient snow shedding. This intentional vertical roof design prevents the accumulation of heavy snow loads on the cover, a potential hazard that could lead to structural damage. By allowing snow to slide off the cover effortlessly, the ‘no worry’ metal RV cover ensures ongoing protection for the recreational vehicle, even in the most severe winter weather conditions. This thoughtful design enhances the cover’s functionality and contributes to its overall reliability in safeguarding RVs throughout the seasons. Snowbirds can leave for the winter with peace of mind knowing that their RV is safely protected. Investing in a metal RV cover is not just a precautionary measure; it’s a commitment to the longevity and well-being of your valuable recreational vehicle.
